In an ongoing attempt to make the Combat: Samurai Island system more comprehensive, compelling, and open we have started working on a few projects that require, among other things, the ability to programmatically discover who is in each official C:SI clan.
Unfortunately, there is no consistency on how the various clan groups are set up in Second Life®, with the result that as far as I can tell, a few clans are so small that they are in danger of being disbanded :
- Crescent Moon – 34 members
- Shadow Samurai – 20 members
- Ako Roshi – 35 members
- Kyousei Clan and Dojo – 5 members
- Vanguard Samurai – 63 members
- Order of the Fox – 3 members
- Yakuza Samurai School – 4 members
- Tendai-shu – 72 members
- Ancients of Eternity – 4 members
- Samurai Giri – 25 members
- The Oda Clan – 15 members
- Samurai of Daoism – 453 members
Now, I know that some of these numbers are incorrect, most likely because the people who set up the SL™ Groups have the "Members are visible" checkbox unchecked:
For now we’ll use what information we have, but in the future it’s possible that there will be problems caused by not being able to know who’s in which clans, so I’d like to personally ask clan leaders to make clan members visible.

I’ll mention this blog entry to Kym. Currently kyousei clan has over 40 members.
Question:is it going to cause problems that some of the clans have non-clansmen in their groups as guests?
I don’t think it will cause problems, no… At least for now, the only thing the in-world clan group membership information is used for is cross-referencing people already in the C:SI database to gather clan affiliations without having to ask clan leaders to keep that information current.
But that brings up an interesting point… I don’t see any reason that a “Guest” or “Visitor” role couldn’t have hidden members, since we are really only interested in the active members with official clan membership.
My clan has 45 members, you checked the wrong group. Thank you.
Actually Kym, he checked the right group. I changed our group settings after he posted this.
Oh, and in response to the other comments, I did leave our “visitors” role as hidden, and I’m pretty sure they are excluded from the “everyone” role, so that role should be the exact number of actual members.
Very cool, thanks Colin! I had noticed that someone changed it, and had already retrieved the member list, but didn’t know who to thank for changing the setting.
Just for your info, Tora Samurai has 60 active fighters =)
Sterremare, According to Second Life it’s got 59 :p
Thanks for the info.
hola que tal; quiero entrar a formar parte de el sistema de lucha de C:SI, compre una katana en samurai island pero el C:SI no venia con la katana, que devo acer? gracias XDDD
I’m sorry kace, I do not understand the question. Perhaps someone else will know and be able to translate for me?
Ah… Do you mean that you did not receive the HUD? It should arrive soon, it doesn’t come with the sword, but is sent after you wear the sword.
I took Spanish all through high school, but unfortunately don’t remember much of it at all. And translation tools aren’t working well because they generally assume that people will type the accents, which is almost never the case. :/
My guess is that he paid a vendor but didn’t receive the sword. I have sent it to a friend who can translate it.
I appreciate that Colin, thank you!
Ps: I tried the available free translation tools, and they didn’t help
“I have bought a katana on Samurai island but the C:SI does not come with the Katana. What am i to do? Thank you”
So…that still isn’t 100% clear, but probably they were confused about getting the HUD. Either that or they bought a non-C:SI katana.
Colin, if you could get your friend to contact kace and figure out what the issue is, I would be willing to pay them for their time and help. I won’t be offended if they say no, of course, but I would like to help and the language barrier is just too much for me.
