These last two days have been by far the best days I’ve had since I contracted the flu a couple of weeks ago, and I think I’ve actually started to kick it,. I have even managed to finally get all of the changes implemented for the upcoming C:SI update.
If you are interested in being a beta tester, please let me know via IM or notecard or comment here on this blog post, and I’ll put you on the list for consideration. I used to have a pretty much static list of people always willing to beta test, but I’ve been out of world so much lately that I’ve pretty much lost touch with everyone, unfortunately.
Please note that these weapons are not compatible with current versions of any C:SI weapon, and in order to beta test, you will need to find another beta tester. For this reason, I strongly prefer experienced and skilled warriors that can partner with a person that they are very used to fighting. Among other things, the familiarity of testing against a common opponent can help to show whether there are significant timing issues, etc.

In other news – I went to the doctor last Thursday, and had the most dreadful experience. You know that scope thingy they use to look up your nostrils and check your sinuses, etc? My doctor reached into a jar to grab the little snap-on extension that they use specifically for nostrils (versus those little cones they use for the ears), rinsed it with a little bit of tap water, and shoved it up each nostril and took a good look around. When he was done, though, he snapped it off and dropped it right back into the jar!!! It didn’t look like the first time he’d done so, either, since there were two of the things in there, sitting in a very shallow layer of some clear liquid (tap water?).
I don’t know if that’s standard procedure (I know some of you are doctors, please speak up!), but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, and it totally creeped me out! Now I’ve pretty much convinced myself that I’m sharing nose bugs with some patient that had come before me, and I’m completely grossed out by it. Add to that the fact that I’m starting to sneeze and sniffle more than I was the previous week before that happened, and I’m very worried that my doctor may have introduce me to another bug.
I swear to God, if I get sick again because of that, I’m gonna kick him square in the junk next time I see him! No, really. I HATE BEING SICK!!!!

Toss me an update if ya want. I’m game as usual. As for the doctor thing… Yeah! That’s really gross and I would get a new one right away. I’m not a doctor but, I work with MR/DD people and even we have better standards.
Oh, yeah, please state your weapon of preference
I’d like to test a tak.
I hope you feel better. I got hit with the flu for a week and it sucked.
I’m sorry to hear that, Malachi. Sounds like you are over it now? I hope so!
A Taketori BETA is on the way
As for whether I’m feeling better… Mostly, yes, thank goodness! Still some lingering effects (like my left nostril being full of dried blood, yucky!), but mostly I feel WAY better than before!
Hey Robby, glad to hear you’re making it through the flu. I’m using my alt, Yoso Jun, more and more now so if I be of any help Beta-testing, drop whichever to him. I’d be happy to help out on either weapon…whichever you need to have more peeps on is good. Take care dude.
OH…I’m hoping that clear liquid was alcohol…and he rinsed it off because alcohol on your mucous membranes in your nostrils burns like a mother.
I am hoping so too. It didn’t seem like a very thorough rinse, though, being only maybe a maximum two seconds, but it didn’t burn at all. Still, maybe he’s just well-practiced at rinsing them?
Find another doctor! lol As far as a weapon… Either a Ninjaken, Taketori or Wave plox. Whichever you need more info from. :3
I already sent you a Wave, like on the 16th… Didn’t you get that?
I would like to get a beta ! Please send me one ~ any one is good .. as long as its beta it works w/ the others right
thx!
Since the Wave is the one that has the most changes to test, I’ll send you one of those.
The beta will work with the other *beta* swords, yes, but not with the normal swords. Just wanted to make that clear
So far Lynkis and I noticed a few things.
1. When wearing an AO it doesn’t allow for the third kick.
2. Some of the animations seem smoother.
3. The sword goes invisible sometimes.
*goes back to testing*
What does this mean? Does it mean you can’t do the third kick at all, or can’t see the anim? What, exactly?
While you are using it? Whoah. WTF?
Hi Robby, I’ve been discussing the Wave beta and the kick push in depth with several people but haven’t had the opportunity to test it myself. If you were thinking about sending one, could you shoot it to Yoso Jun rather than Solace Obviate? Thanks.
Sorry for not being more descriptive. When Lynkis and I wear our AO’s, the animation for the kick starts for a millisecond and jerks to an immediate halt. As far as it working… I’m not sure. I’ll try that out when I can. As for the invisible sword. You know when you only have the sheath attached and you try to take out your sword? Yeah it looks like that but, when you have the sword on. AND it still works! We found this to be fun. Had a few rounds of invisible swords fights. XD
*Sees shiny thing and runs after it!*
Now that’s one I haven’t seen… I don’t suppose you know of a consistent set of steps I can take to reliably reproduce that?
Apparently the “invisible sword” problem happens after a teleport, which is interesting. I’ll try to find a fix for that today.
As for whether an AO interferes with a kick, I don’t think I’m going to try too very hard to fix that, as the problem lies with the AO and not with the sword, and in any case Second Life gives me very little control over the issue.
I can say that the problem does not happen with the majority of AOs I’ve tried, except for one very old and not well-scripted one which nobody should be using in a duel anyway
Yeah… about that kick thing. It’s not just with the AO any more. I used the wave and it still did that with the AO off. Also when you are doing the third kick in the air you kinda briefly “pause”. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. :p
OH! BTW the Wave kept trying to send me an update every time I put the sword on. :3
Did you try using the update it sent? Did it still keep sending updates, even when using the newer one?
I guess I’m not understanding… I am not seeing any problems with the third kick, so I’m not quite sure what you mean.
I just got back from the hospital (wife is very ill now), so I’m tired as all get out, but I’ll try to meet up with you in-world soon to see whatcha mean.
Wishing your wife a speedy recovery, Robby. Anything I can do or look into…just an IM away.
O_O! I hope that your wife is getting better and I’ll pray for her. Don’t worry about the bugs for now. Get some rest. C:SI will be here for a while. :3
Greetings, I wish that your partner will recover early.
And Thx for making me participate to beta test.
Greetings,
Could I have beta wave too? I will send a report for it.
I recently sparred Silver briefly in Shadow and Arriana at length in Tokugawa, my Take-beta against their Wave-beta. All i have to say is that this Take feels like the original pre-Mono version. I thought I would miss the old sweep kick but the new kick is just fine. I did notice something that I hadn’t before…my jump anim interferes with a mid-air slash. So I guess I need to mod my AO more or just detach it altogether. Overall Robby, I’m very happy with the Take beta. I haven’t had the chance to use the Wave-beta much.
Sure, I sent you one
I look forward to your feedback, especially if you find any problems!
That’s what I was hoping. I actually prefer the sweep kick, but I got so much negative feedback on it that I decided that this was a good time to change it.
I hate the way Second Life handles animations, quite frankly. There are a number of JIRA entries on the issue, but I don’t have them handy at the moment. Besides, it’ll be another two years before ‘teh lab’ gets around to even thinking about fixing it, I’m sure.
I’m glad to hear that
Well get to it man! jk
One thing I did notice on both swords but forgot to post earlier. The triple kick combo that triggers the flip-kick actually translationally moves the avatar. I land to the side that I flip. I don’t mind it at all but was wondering if that’s what was intended.
And I too thought the Take sweep kick was very signature. I had a hell of a time with it when the sword first came out, and actually posted a bit about how hard it is to counter. But I convinced myself of something that made me react pretty well against the sweep-kick. The same feature that makes it difficult to counter initially (dropping the opponent avatar below the line of sight), is a huge tell in terms of the opponent truly attempting a kick rather than faking it in terms of simply opening their block to make you drop your block. In that sense, I just figured, “Well hell, if they fall to the ground with the Take, slash away…it MUST be a kick.”
And at first I did a doubletake on the new kick. But after taking the Take-beta around the block a few times, I got a giggle when I kicked Arriana in her butt as she was falling from her jump-slash. It was the single best POV kick to the booty I’ve ever seen in SL.
LOL!
Oh, yeah… I forgot to mention that. I thought I’d try it, just for kicks
It doesn’t move very much at all, but it’s enough to notice. It’s probably not enough to put you out of someone’s range if they are already aimed at you before the kick, though.
If people don’t like it, it’s easy enough to remove.
Thank you Takuan-san^^
I work hard:)
Boot-to-da-head!
