Kodachi Beta Testing

pretty, huh?I’m nearly ready to have people start Beta testing my new dual-wield Kodachi.

I’d originally intended to discuss the features and design, but I’m far too angry and discouraged by the latest Second Life “feature” to really bother with it.

Nevertheless, I know that there are people who are curious as to the progress of the new weapon, so suffice it to say that as soon as my alpha testers give it the green light I will start rolling out a few Betas.  That could happen as early as this evening.

For those of you who are interested, the latest Second Life viewer includes a feature to simply not render nearby prims when it has reached a maximum number of vertices IN THE ENTIRE SCENE.  In other words, it basically says “I’ve rendered all I’m going to render, and too bad for you if your attachments look broken or missing”: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13868

There are other new “features” giving me heartburn, but that particular one is preventing me from taking snapshots for the product posters, so I’m particularly aggravated by it.

    I have all daikon forge weapons accept knife.
    I would like to try this Kodachi i so it on my friend it looks awesome.

    1. When you run and then hit block, you slide. (Shattered figured this one out.)
    2. The block doesn’t appear all the time.
    3. I love how you switch stances.
    4. Animations look like you’re fighting underwater to me. Smooth but, slow. O_O!

    All this in ten minutes. lol I’ll play with it more when I get off of work tomorrow. Over all a smexy weapon.

    Yeah, the anims are a bit slow. I may speed them up a bit tomorrow.

    As for the problems with block, I couldn’t reproduce either of those. I’ll try tomorrow in a busier sim and see if that makes the difference.

    Not sure how much control I have over that, though, since the blocking code is basically the same stuff all C:SI weapons use. I guess I’ll just have to look into it and see what I can find out.

    Wow, so…. Yeah… The block is completely and totally borked. It’s not that it doesn’t work sometimes, it doesn’t work *ever*, against another Kodachi.

    sigh

    The fix is brain-dead simple, and was just an oversight, but I’m quite amazed that nobody had reported that yet.

    This is a good time for me to implement the update server while I’m at it, so it may take a little longer to get people their updates. Sorry about that.
