Kodachi Beta Update

Quick notes :

  • Changed kick push power to match current generation of non-Beta weapons, since the C:SI update with increased kick push will not be rolled out before I release the Kodachi.
  • Still no special attack – I mentioned this in the text on the box, but apparently nobody reads the box, haha.  I’m still working on the special, and hope to finish it this weekend.
  • Fixed a problem where Kodachi weapons would not block when used against another Kodachi.  Stoopid bug, easily fixed
  • Automatic Updates – The script that checks for updates is now in the sheath, rather than the sword.  It drives me absolutely BONKERS that people continue to detach a weapon after each duel, causing the weapon to ping my website to check for updates, and some people never upgrade their old weapons, which overburdens my update server unnecessarily.  If you want to force the weapon to check for updates, detach and re-attach the sheath instead of the weapon.
  • Tweaked the kick timing a bit.  This is experimental, and feedback is desired.  It is hoped that this makes it easier to counterattack after a kick, but I need to know if this changes weapon balance in any adverse way.

I hope you are feeling better.

As far as the special goes, don’t worry too much about it out that soon. Honestly, the only times specials are used is when you are a noob or in a FFA.

Yay! To the fixed block bug. :3

The reason I think people detach their weapon is out of habit. Remember that used to be the quickest way to get your health back to full after a duel?

BTW! I still think you should use your wife’s katanas… The money all goes to the same place right? Just change a few things to spiffy them up a bit. They are good weapons. I wish I wish they were C:SI compatible.

I’ve been discussing with my wife what to do with her weapons, but we have yet to come to any solid decisions. There’s some history there, and I don’t think she’s entirely happy with the way things have turned out, so it’s been a difficult thing to come to any agreement on.

I’ll be working on a special today, I guess. I honestly don’t feel any particular motivation or enthusiasm for the special attack, but I have to have one, so I’ll do my best. In any case, I am quite anxious to be finished with this weapon so that I can get back to work on a few secret projects I’ve been working on lately, so I hope to be able to finish up all of the remaining tasks in the near future.

    Greetings.
I don’t usually use SP, either. However, SP is also a part which constitutes Katana.
I didn’t so like a part of anime of kodachi.
    Example Slash D’s Anime-1:

Since I felt no defending only powerful from the anime. However, I like all animes now.
So, I would like to see anime of sp of Kodachi early.

I wish your partner will be in a better state.

Isn’t she just adorable? lol Hey, I was thinking of the placements of the sheathes. (‘Cause every dual weapon has the same sheath basically.) Have you ever watched the movie Hero? Zhang Ziyi was a student in the movie that had these two swords attached facing one side. One was over the shoulder and the other was around her waist line. This is the best image I could find.

    *hopes this works* lol

Another idea is to do them both at the waist. I think that would be cool. It’s just that Arch’s and Ayame’s dual swords have that already… >.>

I have thought about offering a couple of different styles, although I hadn’t seen that one. I had thought of offering a back mount style with both sheaths on the same side, as well as something similar to Daisho style, but at this point I might just say “screw it” and give up on Second Life altogether.

Okay, maybe not before I release this weapon, but I’m so damned tired of Linden Lab screwing things up that I’m really not far from doing so today.

I know it’s not all that fancy and it may not look like it, but I spent a long time building this weapon, and have put a tremendous amount of work into it only to discover that Linden Lab’s new viewer includes a “feature” where if the scene contains more than a hardcoded number of vertices, it will just stop rendering prims. Basically says “I’m done, this is simply too much to draw, too bad for you.”

And, in typical Linden Lab fashion, it stops rendering the ones RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FREAKING CAMERA! Not the ones off in the distance, oh no sir. That would actually make sense. Instead it chooses to skip the ones you have the camera focused on, the ones you are zoomed in to see, the ones that are obviously the most important ones in all of Second Life to you at that particular point in time. The viewer just says “Nope, not gonna do it, screw you.”

This makes it really damned hard to edit something when it appears to be half missing as soon as you zoom in on it. Honestly, what the fuck were they thinking?

I actually tried to do the Daisho style “both on hip” sheath this morning, and just had to give up.

Maybe I’ll be able to dig up an older viewer and continue work that way. I’ll look into it tomorrow.

O_O! My friend uses a WAY older version of SL. They went here:

    http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2008/05/release-old-school-os-p.html

And I guess you can do things to the whatcha-ma-call-it to make older versions to work… Hope it helps!

The Nicholaz viewer is good, no question about it. It’s a shame he became disillusioned with Linden Lab repeatedly and incomprehensibly ignoring valuable input (and actual bug fixes) from the open source community.

I did manage to find an older viewer and do the custom channel trick to make it work, and was able to edit the kodachi sheath to fix some problems that have been bothering me for a week, so I’m pleased about that. I should at least be able to finish the Kodachi in the near future. :)

Still, I’m not super excited to make another weapon right after I complete this one, which is really a shame. Second Life shouldn’t be so messed up that it actually discourages people from making stuff :(

Not that I’m not grateful for the time and effort you you obviously put into your work but, I think you could stand to step back a bit sometimes. I think you could punch out more weapons and make more money if you just left somethings alone or a bit more simple maybe? I don’t know ’cause, I’m not there. It just seems like you take more time than you need to on some of these weapons. Again, I am grateful for the attention to detail, the fact that you take the time to listen to your customers and most of all don’t treat us like idiots when we ask stupid questions. I think what I’m really saying is… Take it easy. :3

Perhaps. There are, I think, two big reasons for why I take so long to make weapons

    1. If I don’t at least try to do the best job I can, it’s not worth doing at all.
    2. I’m not very good at this stuff, so it takes me longer to reach an acceptable result than someone who actually has artistic talents and skills

I’m actively working on my skills, and I have to think that as I learn and improve, I will also be more able to work faster. I’ve discovered many things that have helped me improve my process and streamline my workflow, and I already have a ton of ideas for the next one :)

Not good?! PSH! If you’re not good then why does just about EVERYONE have at LEAST one of your weapons? I know why! ‘Cause they are just that awesome! :D

I thought that the consensus was that it was because I made cheater weapons? I sure hear that a lot :)

Well, you have to fight a “cheater” weapons with another one don’t ya? lol I think those noobs really know it’s well made and the most responsive but, people gotta whine about something right? :3

I have every one of your weapons and must say that having seen the Kodachi in action by many beta testers, I must interject with a frivolous girlie comment – it is a welcome and sexy addition to your inventory. ;-)
It looks awesome worn with power in it’s slashes – sexy and nice animation to boot! Hehe

Well thank you for that :)

I’m working on the special attack and the product box now, and despite everything that is happening in RL right now, I think it’s possible that I might be able to finish by the beginning of next week.

    I hope so, anyways, haha.
