I’m nearly ready to have people start Beta testing my new dual-wield Kodachi.
I’d originally intended to discuss the features and design, but I’m far too angry and discouraged by the latest Second Life “feature” to really bother with it.
Nevertheless, I know that there are people who are curious as to the progress of the new weapon, so suffice it to say that as soon as my alpha testers give it the green light I will start rolling out a few Betas. That could happen as early as this evening.
For those of you who are interested, the latest Second Life viewer includes a feature to simply not render nearby prims when it has reached a maximum number of vertices IN THE ENTIRE SCENE. In other words, it basically says “I’ve rendered all I’m going to render, and too bad for you if your attachments look broken or missing”: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13868
There are other new “features” giving me heartburn, but that particular one is preventing me from taking snapshots for the product posters, so I’m particularly aggravated by it.

As some of you are already aware, I’ve been working heavily on a new weapon lately (pictured at right). What I haven’t mentioned much is that my intention is to make it a dual-wield weapon, and I expect there will be a very mixed reaction from the community about that.
I know there are a lot of people out there that dislike dual-wield weapons for one reason or another, and I had originally planned to present some thoughts on the various issues regarding dual-wield that had been rolling around inside by brainpan for a while now, but I had the unfortunate luck to wake up this morning with a headache the size of Texas. I really don’t feel like trying to write something interesting when the simple act of writing what I’ve already written thus far makes my head feel like it’s full of broken glass and mud
What I’d like to do instead is ask you about your thoughts on dual-wield weapons. I’ve heard many widely differing opinions, some wildly enthusiastic and positive, and some strongly negative. Certainly balance is one of the biggest issues with weapons that are significantly different than a standard katana, and I know that some of you have put a great deal of thought and testing into determining whether each weapon is balanced, and why or why not (hi Kasumi!).
Whatever your preferred fighting style, whether you are a toe-to-toe tanker or a surgical-strike-and-move fighter, if you have an opinion you’d like to share about potential pitfalls I should try to avoid, or thoughts about what makes a dual-wield weapon great, etc., I’d love to hear it. Feel free as always to leave a comment here on the blog, or send me an IM or notecard in-world any time.

It’s an insanely busy week for me, so I will have to keep this post short and simple : I recently placed my new vendors in several in-world locations as part of a staged rollout that would allow me enough time to ensure that I wasn’t going to experience a recurrence of the issue that forced me to recall them recently.
So far, things appear to be going very well, and I’m ready to roll out the new vendors to all in-world locations. But there’s a few catches…
In some locations, I have lost my spot. This is natural and expected, and I certainly don’t expect anyone to keep an empty spot waiting for me, but it does mean that I’ll have fewer locations available to me in the short term.
In other locations, I’m no longer a member of the group necessary for placing vendors. This is primarily due to Second Life’s restrictions on the number of groups you can join, and I’m *always* at the 25-group limit, so I have to join and leave on an ‘as-needed’ basis. If I previously had vendors at your location, I may need to request another group invite when I am ready to replace the vendors.
I’ve also had a higher than usual number of inquiries about new locations lately. If I seem to have ignored your IM or notecard inquiry, please do not be offended or feel singled out, as RL concerns have caused me to ignore pretty much everyone in SL lately, and I certainly don’t intend to ignore anyone on purpose. If you wish to remind me, please be assured that I would appreciate it and will not think that anyone is being pushy.
Thank you, and I hope everyone reading this is having a wonderful day!

As many of you already know, I’ve been working on a new C:SI weapon for some time now. It’s been one of those projects where I sweat and agonize over every little detail, and I’ve probably started over from the beginning on each piece of the thing no less than three times each. That’s okay for the most part, and it’s just part of the process for me, but it often means that I experience a bit of burnout before any big project is complete.
What I needed was a way to reboot my enthusiasm for building, something that could be done from start to finish in a short period of time, and for that reason, I created the DF-1 Combat Knife. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not combat-capable, it’s just a combat knife styled prop/accessory that I’ve kind of wanted to do for a very long time.
If such a thing is interesting to you, I encourage you to visit the XStreetSL listing and view the available images of the knife. I hope that you’ll agree with me that for a quick project it didn’t turn out too bad
Now that I’ve had a little creative diversion, I’m feeling more energized about continuing work on my upcoming C:SI weapon. It’s kind of funny that way, I learn new stuff on every build, and now there are things I want to tweak on the new weapon as a result of working on this knife. Hopefully the end result will be better for it, haha.
